This past Saturday my daughter and I wandered through the Wake Forest Farmers Market, which is quickly becoming our favorite 1:1 weekend ritual together. Here’s what ended up in our bag and what I turned it into once we got home.
🍁 The Haul
We first stopped by the Brogden Farm booth. He's always a hoot! From him we grabbed:
- Beets
- Butternut squash
- A lone little turnip (felt adventurous)
- A $1 pumpkin?!
- Sweet potatoes
From Many Hands Farm:
- Green beans
- A bag of arugula
From Lee’s Hilltop Farms:
- Bacon (because obviously)
- Ground beef
- Meaty soup bones (‘tis the season... for soup)
- A dozen eggs
A pretty solid mix of veggies + protein without spending 400 years in the grocery store AND bonus points for getting to spend time outside with my girl.
🍽️ What I Cooked With It
I promised myself I wouldn’t overthink meals this week, because there is no space in this mom-brain for that! Just simple, satisfying, real-food stuff that works for both grown-ups and tiny humans.
Here’s where everything landed:
- Roasted sweet potatoes: soft enough for the baby, delicious enough for me to snack on half the tray.
- Beet & arugula salad: fancy in appearance, extremely chill in effort.
- Minestrone-ish soup: green beans + turnips + soup bones = cozy magic to soothe the soul
- Beef quesadillas: my forever “I cannot think about dinner right now” dinner.
- Chili: fall’s love language.
- Bacon: breakfast hero, no notes.
- Bacon + cheddar egg bites: I make a batch for when mornings are chaos (so… most mornings).
Be sure to stop by the Wake Forest Farmers market ((https://www.wakeforestmarket.org/), happening every Saturday 9am-12pm!
